Savvion BPM Server

Turn Your Process Models into Enterprise Class Process-Based Solutions

Progress® Savvion BPM Server is the engine that drives your business processes. It is a highly scalable and reliable set of Java-based engines that manage running business process applications. Savvion for business process management provides a rich set of services for executing and managing business process applications, including integration, workflow, and business rules.

Savvion BPM Server is part of the Savvion BPM platform, a comprehensive BPM software package that puts process improvement control in the hands of your project teams, and turns technology into a tool that can help drive your success. Three server engines combine to create a powerful, reliable system, laying a solid foundation for business process:

  • Savvion Process Engine
The Savvion Process Engine is Savvion BPM's process execution and workflow engine. It not only ensures that people receive tasks relevant to their day to day work but also facilitates orchestration of system-to-system processes. Running in an independent Java application container from the other Savvion Engines enables the Savvion Process Engine to scale independently to meet the most stringent enterprise architecture requirements.  Savvion BPM process templates, designed in either Savvion Process Modeler or configured in Savvion BPM Studio, are managed by the Savvion Process Engine as running process driven applications. As a process is executed, the Savvion Process Engine generates events creating a complete audit trail of everything that happens during process execution.

  • Savvion Rules Engine
The Savvion Rules Engine processes events generated and managed by the Savvion Process Engine. Business rules defined using wizards embody event-condition-action paradigms which specify the actions that should take place if an event pattern occurs. Actions can include new events, alerts, personalized analytic report delivery, even automated corrective action such as starting escalation processes in the Savvion Process Engine. The Savvion Rules Engine, like all of the key server engines, can scale independently from the other components this means more flexibility in designing powerful rules based processes.

  • Web Applications Engine
The Web Applications Engine enables the development and implementation of feature rich web-enabled workflow applications. These applications can embody complex logic, custom portal/end user screen rendering, and robust data-driven process management behaviors. The Web Applications Engine, like all of the components of the Savvion BPM suite, is completely open and accessible via web services. Transaction management issues, concurrency, and other key scalability concerns are managed natively by the web server on which the engine runs.

The Savvion BPM empowers you to dramatically improve the speed in which you respond to change, thereby reducing costs and fundamentally altering the way you innovate your business operations.

  • Respond to Change – Quickly evaluate what is needed and make “in-flight” process changes. Modifications can be made by updating the rules or the process parameters without IT intervention. Changes requiring an update in process design can be implemented in days rather than months.

  • Achieve Real-time Visibility – Savvion BPM Server lets you create metrics to measure what is important to you and then you can monitor them from a dashboard. Intelligent dashboards not only inform you when things go wrong, but also let you know probable causes, and recommend corrective actions to avert further problems.

  • Drive Innovation – With the Savvion BPM you can change process applications in response to changes in business conditions, and because you have complete visibility into business processes, you can change them as a result of new innovative ideas that you have discovered.

  • Empower Your Business Users – Define the key performance indicators of your business and monitor them without turning to IT for help. Savvion BPM allows business users to work the way they need to work. It provides necessary insight, decision management, and change management capabilities so you can do what is needed to be successful.

Features

BPM server is compatible with a wide variety of enterprise applications on many platform configurations. Features of BPM Server include:

  • Business Process Workflow
Savvion BPM Server allows business units to collaborate and work together, which is vital to streamlining and optimizing business processes across departments. The process engine alerts users and applications to when they must take action and automatically records every transaction, making it available to the other applications for reporting. This could involve, for example, online sales, from the moment a customer enters their transaction – including special offers and coupons – through fulfillment and shipping.

  • Open Architecture
BPM Server is based on open Internet standards, including enterprise class J2EE and XML. Your BPM solutions are managed in a flexible environment in which changes are easy to manage. Savvion BPM Server surfaces important process logic and business rules right to the business user without affecting system stability. This means that unlike other solutions which drive you back to the design environment for every change, it supports rapid process optimization, increasing the agility of your business.

  • Performance & Availability
BPM Server is built from the ground up with major enterprise deployments in mind. We support sophisticated distributed deployments as well as easy-to-maintain centralized approaches. Regardless of your approach, each server component can operate independently. Distribute server engines across multiple hardware nodes, improving availability. Or, cluster BPM Server components in a single environment, making sure you have performance where your business needs it most. However you configure it, Savvion BPM Server is designed to be a fail-safe environment, responding to user demand and providing the functionality you need to keep your processes running smoothly.
